I was in a car accident this morning, but I do not have any pain or soreness in my neck. Could I still have whiplash?
Yes. Many times immediately after a car accident, victims are often unaware that their neck, back, or shoulders have been injured. You may only have slight discomfort and/or stiffness in your neck. Whiplash typically does not become apparent for 12 to 24 hours after the car accident.

Yes. Often physicians will order Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) or a CAT scan.
If whiplash I think I have whiplash why is my physician taking an x-ray?
This is done to rule out more serious neck, back, and spinal cord injuries.
How long will my whiplash symptoms last?
Symptoms from minor whiplash injuries may subside within 2-4 weeks. If your symptoms persist, or you believe your injury is significant, consult a physician for further evaluation.
Can I do anything to prevent a neck, back, or spine injury during an auto accident?
It is not completely avoidable, but checking your head restraint in your car or truck is one good measure. Head restraints should be high enough so that they are directly behind the back of your head. Some cars and trucks have headrests that are very low, which could make you susceptible to a neck or back injury.
